The Adoption Process
Thank you for considering adopting an animal from the RSPCA Bedfordshire South & Mid Hertfordshire Branch.

Many of our animals have come from deprived backgrounds, and our aim is to ensure that their next home is the best possible as well as being for life. We hope that you support this aim, taking care to find the right animal for you. Before you look for a new pet, remember that pet ownership takes time, money, commitment, patience, and it is likely to change your life completely.
Adopting a cat, dog, bunny or small animal is a wonderful decision that brings joy and companionship to your home. Here is our adoption process:
STEP 1 - Search for cat, dog, bunny, or small animal adoption:
- Consider location, age, gender, breed, and compatibility with other animals or children.
- Rule out any allergies.
- Determine whether the cat, bunny or small animal is suitable, and you meet the criteria as an adopter.
STEP 2 - Complete an application form:
- Once you’ve found your perfect furry companion, complete the online application form.
- If you would like to speak with a member of our team about anything prior submitting a form, you can call 07510 390872 or email us , we’d love to hear from you!
STEP 3 - Submit your home video.
- Once your application has been accepted you will be asked to provide a home video (this does not include private areas but is focused on the location of the home and access to the outdoors and garden) and is to check that the animal’s future environment is safe and suitable.
- Once application and home video are approved your chosen prospective pet will be placed on ‘reserved’ status.
STEP 4 - Visiting your prospective new pet:
- Once your application and home video have been approved you will be able to arrange a meeting with your chosen prospective new pet in their foster placement.
- Receive tips on creating a safe environment for your new pet.
- Learn about food, toys, and other essentials for your prospective pet.
STEP 5 - Decide:
- Once you have met it is time to decide!
- Remember, being a responsible pet owner is not just about the initial excitement of bringing a pet home—it’s a lifelong commitment to their well-being and happiness. 🐾🏡🐶🐱
- Final Evaluate of Your Readiness: Before committing, carefully consider your lifestyle, work situation, living arrangements, time availability, and financial resources. Assess whether you are truly prepared for the responsibilities that come with pet ownership.
STEP 6 - Adoption day! Collecting Your New Animal Companion:
- Once everyone is satisfied, and you have paid the adoption fee you can arrange to collect your new pet.
- We will officially sign over your new family member to you.
